It’s best to make the drive during low tide. It’s also a good idea to check the tide schedule for when you plan to drive in and drive out.We didn’t run into any problems, but conditions may vary. That way if one gets stuck the other can help it out. It is recommended to take two 4-wheel drive vehicles if possible.No camping permits or reservations are required.The annual national parks pass is also accepted here. Look for this hill if you want a great look out over the whole island. We found the perfect spot with a little hill up on the dunes side and a sandy trail to the top of it. The drive is part of the fun and great for people watching other parties of beachgoers along the way. We drove for about 2 hrs (driving less then 25mph the entire time). You will eventually come to a sign warning that only 4 wheel drive cars should go beyond. The farther you drive the less populated it will become. FYI: This is your last chance to use public restrooms.ĭrive along the beach for as long as you want until you find the perfect spot. From there you will continue on Park Rd 22 for about 5.5 miles until the road runs directly into the beach. Entering ‘Padre Island National Seashore Sign’ into google maps will navigate you to the main entrance of the park. Padre Island is a barrier island located just south of Corpus Christi, TX.
